Tears in Heaven
Song 28:365 is my version of Eric Clapton’s haunting song, Tears in Heaven. This was written after the tragic death of his 4 year-old son in 1991. I hope you enjoy this.

After yesterday’s Neighbours retrospective, here’s another song from that era: Kylie and Jason’s Especially For You. I hope this brings back memories of school Christmas parties in 1988!

Today’s song is Cheerleader by Jamaican singer OMI who began developing the song as early as 2008. Remixed in 2013 by German DJ Felix Jaehn, the song achieved worldwide success in 2015, topping the charts in over 20 countries.

The version of Torn that I know best, and probably the version known by most people is Natalie Imbruglia’s 1997 recording. However, it appears that this song was originally recorded by American alt-rock band Ednaswap in 1995, and an earlier recording of a Danish version of the song Brændt (“Burnt”) by Lis Sørensen dates from 1993. The actual origins are a bit unclear! Regardless, I hope you enjoy my version!

Here’s today’s song: it’s Maroon 5’s She Will Be Loved from 2004. This song topped the charts in Australia, the US, Belgium, Venezuela and Israel, and did pretty well pretty much everywhere else too!

Today I’m playing Elton John’s classic Rocket Man which was released 6 days before I was born, on 14 April 1972. It tells the story of an astronaut not so much as a hero, but as an every day character who misses his family while travelling hundreds of miles above the earth. Elton John performed this song at the launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998.

Today’s song is the 1987 (the greatest musical year of the 80s!) Michael Jackson classic, The Way You Make Me Feel. I’ve slowed it down a bit and (hopefully successfully!) given it a bit more bluesy feel. This song came to mind this week as I read an article about a Peruvian girl who was a contestant on the Peruvian equivalent of The Voice. She has become something of an internet sensation as she has released a version of this song in Quechua, the language of the Inca. A very talented young lady, and quite a clever idea, even if she’s not actually a Quechua speaker herself!

I’m running a bit late with today’s tune as I’ve had a very busy day! I’ve decided to play Robbie Williams’ Strong as my #365Song today. The original was released in 1998 and it’s hard to believe that was 17 years ago! Apparently Robbie sang Strong along with the crowd at Knebworth for the 2003 live album in an attempt to break the world record for the biggest number of people doing karaoke at one time!

While spending the day with a friend and colleague yesterday at a training course which involved a 2 hour car journey both ways, I was introduced to some great new music including this lovely song by American singer songwriter Ben Rector. It is indeed the perfect song for a first dance at a wedding:
Well I’ll be the words on the pages.
If you’ll be my sweet melody.
And the tune can keep changing,
cause I’ll keep arranging.
And this is the song that we’ll sing.
Here’s a performance of the original if you’re interested. I hope you enjoy my version.

Today’s song is my version of Eternal Flame by The Bangles. One of the most well known ballads from the 80s (1988 to be exact), this song has been covered many times, including by Atomic Kitten in 2001 and – in French – by Bonnie Tyler and Laura Zen.
