All About That Bass

Mark

OK, so it’s not half as cool as Kate Davis’ version, but here’s my swing version of Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass.

Stars

Mark

I thought of this song last night when I was trying a long exposure to photograph the lovely starry sky (see below) but I figured that I’d probably already played it in my last 365 Songs challenge. However, it turns out that I didn’t play Stars first time round, so here’s the powerful song from Les Misérables today. I hope you enjoy this (and the photo below!)

Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso

Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso

Mark

A new month and a new tune. Today’s piece is the love theme from the film Cinema Paradiso written by Ennio Morricone and his son Andrea. I heard this for the first time in years on Classic FM last Sunday morning driving up from London and decided to add this to my list. I’ll need to play the main theme from the film at some point too. I hope you enjoy this one.

Theme from Dogtanian

Mark

If yesterday’s Laudate Dominum was the sublime, this probably fits the “ridiculous” slot! In response to the request from Lisa, here’s the Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds Theme Tune, in the style of a Chopin étude. Well, sort of! I’m sure there would be a few more runs of semiquavers and it would perhaps be in a more adventurous key, but I hope this brings a smile and conjures up some familiar images. Here’s the real thing for those of you who missed out on this animated classic from the 80s.

Mozart’s Laudate Dominum

Mozart’s Laudate Dominum

Mark

Today I’m playing Mozart’s Laudate Dominum from Vesperae Solennes de Confessore. It’s a stunning piece of music with a lyrical melody line soaring above steady chord progressions. I’ve arranged it a bit ‘loosely’, but I hope you like this!

Our Last Summer
29 Jan 2015 2015, Music 1980s, Abba, D major, January, pop 0

Our Last Summer

Mark

Today I’m playing the Abba song Our Last Summer from the 1980 album Super Trouper. It was sung by Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried (with contributions by Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Meryl Streep) in Mamma Mia. Trivia of the day: the original guitar solo features a melody which was reused in Anthem in the musical Chess.

Theme from Coffee Break Spanish

Mark

Today we’re launching the fourth season of Coffee Break Spanish and we’ve got a new, sophisticated version of the theme to go with it, so I thought I’d do a wee improvisation on this for today’s piano piece. There’s more information about Coffee Break Spanish here, and I hope you enjoy something a bit different today!

Remembrances from Schindler’s List

Mark

I was trying to come up with something suitable to play to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. I’d played the Theme from Schindler’s List back in 2010, but I turned again to this soundtrack for today’s piece of music. It’s the haunting piece Remembrances which really needs a solo violin, but hopefully I’ve done it justice.
